I'm a photojournalist who spent 20 years shooting and 8 years leading visual teams, and I'm returning to what I love most: being on the street with a camera, telling stories, and serving communities through daily journalism.

After directing photography at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Rockford Register Star, I stepped back into shooting and teaching because the work that energizes me most is the work I did at the beginning of my career: showing up, building trust, capturing moments, and filing by deadline. I'm not looking to climb another ladder. I'm looking for a newsroom that needs a reliable, experienced shooter who brings craft, hustle, and 20+ years of editorial judgment.

WHAT I BRING AS A SHOOTER

- 20+ years of daily assignments: breaking news, features, sports, community coverage

- Technical: Nikon system (daily shooter), Canon & Sony systems, Photo Mechanic/Lightroom/Photoshop, mobile filing & FTP

- Published: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Des Moines Register, Block Club Chicago, 15West.org, Rockford Register Star, Morning Call, Ottawa Daily Times

- Coverage experience: natural disasters, political campaigns, mass casualty events, enterprise projects, sports, features, portraits

- Bilingual (Spanish)—critical for access and trust in Latino communities

WHAT THE LEADERSHIP YEARS TAUGHT ME

I've been a assignment editor, photo editor, director, and AME. That experience makes me a better shooter, not a bored one:

- I know what editors need before they ask

- I can anticipate coverage gaps and pitch enterprise on my beat

- I understand legal/ethical pressure points (consent, access, minors, trauma)

- I can mentor younger shooters without stepping on the photo editor's toes

- I've run the assignment desk—I know how to make your job easier, not harder

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

A staff photographer role where I can shoot 4-5 days a week, cover a beat or neighborhood, and contribute to a newsroom that values community accountability and visual storytelling. I'm not expensive, I've taught adjunct and freelanced for two years, and I know the market. I'm not looking to manage, I'm looking to shoot. And I'm not going anywhere, I'm 20 years into this career because I love the work, not the title.

I'm particularly drawn to newsrooms covering underserved communities, Spanish-language outlets, or metros investing in neighborhood journalism.
